How can I join the dabke line at weddings and celebrations?

Street Dabka is a project that teaches Palestinian folk dabke through simple, interactive workshops inspired by the atmosphere of weddings and social gatherings. It is a flexible, accessible practice that can happen anywhere — in studios, parks, streets, and public spaces — inviting anyone to join, learn the rhythm, and feel the collective energy of the dance.

About the Project

Founded in 2019, Street Dabka reimagines dabke as a global, research-driven practice connecting history, geopolitics, and urban life. The project goes beyond traditional forms to create spaces for collective exploration, bringing together dance, heritage, and community building.

Through workshops in Palestine, Jordan, Switzerland, New York, and Ireland, Street Dabka has welcomed participants of all ages and experiences. Each workshop is designed to recreate the spirit of Palestinian celebrations — the joy, connection, and communal energy that makes dabke more than just a dance, but a living tradition.

Workshop Experience

No experience is necessary to join a Street Dabka workshop. The practice is built on the idea that anyone can learn the basic steps and rhythms, just as they would at a wedding or village celebration. Through simple, repetitive movements and collective energy, participants quickly find themselves part of the dabke line, experiencing the power of moving together.

Workshops typically run 60-90 minutes and can accommodate groups of various sizes. They can take place in dance studios, community centers, parks, streets, or any space where people can gather and move together.
